School Philosophy and Mission
"At Morning Glory Montessori School we feel that our most important job is to enable each child to fulfill his greatest potential. Dr. Montessori realized that the nature of all children was to be curious and that when left on their own, children would seek to explore their environment to the fullest?asking questions, looking into every nook and cranny, and trying every combination of possibilities to see what would happen. When this curiosity is squelched, the child's natural path is blocked. A child will then deviate slightly from his natural path. When a child's curiosity is squelched time after time, the child deviates greatly from his path and may not be able to regain the path at all.
It is our goal to stimulate the children's curiosity and to enable them to follow their curiosity to its natural consequences. We want the children to be able to make their own choices and follow their own instincts unless doing so hurts other people or other people's property. The Montessori classroom is designed as a prepared environment which fosters an atmosphere where children can follow natural inclinations while learning to live within the boundaries which living with others imposes.
By having a small community of mixed ages, the children are able to occupy different positions in the community in different years. When a child is one of the youngest children in the class, she looks to the older children for guidance and help. She notices the work that the older children do and looks forward to the day when she can do the more advanced work as well.
As the child grows older in his second and third years in the class, he grows in confidence and feels himself to be an important contributing member of the community. By the time the child reaches his kindergarten year, he has blossomed into one of the leaders in the class. He helps the younger children with their work and assists the teacher in giving lessons. He is now doing the most advanced exercises in the class and is very proud of what he has learned
