"Play is the \"WORK\" of the young child and it is through imitative play that the child learns. Play, however, is guided to serve educational and developmental means. Therefore, a wide variety of play situations are aimed at specific purposes.

St. Luke Lutheran Preschool provides an environment created for children in which the staff provides activities and experiences to develop the spiritual, intellectual, academic, emotional, social and physical skills of each child.

Christian values are shared with the children through the entire curriculum and especially in stories, songs and prayers. Social development is based on Christian behavior and respect toward other children and the staff.

Play equipment provides many opportunities for children to develop muscle coordination through climbing, pulling, running and building.

Books, stories, puzzles, pegboards, tools, manipulative equipment, games, plants and animals encourage the children to explore, problem solve, develop cognitive skills, expand their understanding of the world around them and \"learn to learn.\"

Through dramatic play, each child may try out various \"roles\" and expand creativity and social skills.

Creative art materials are available for self-expression, such as clay and play dough to shape and squeeze, easel and finger painting, water and sand with which to build and explore.

Teacher directed projects help children learn new skills as well as extend their ability to follow directions. The day includes times for individual and group play, self-directed and teacher-directed activities, physical activities and quiet time.
