"Our philosophy is based on our belief that each child is unique, and therefore has his or her own distinctive needs and abilities. We recognize that children grow and develop in their own way and at their own pace. We believe their first experiences in school, and as members of the community of Kehillat Israel, should be as positive, validating, and encouraging as possible -- where they feel that they are successful just being who they are.
We believe that every human being is created in the image of God and that each child is a reflection of Godliness. We believe that it is through the celebration of the Jewish holidays, and the practice of Jewish values such as honesty, respect, kindness, holiness, learning, community, and repairing the world, that our children acquire a sense of their own holiness, spiritual self-worth, and a sense of pride and joy in being Jewish.
We know that learning for young children has to be interactive and involve the whole child. We are committed to respecting, encouraging, and supporting each child in their process of growing socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. Young children learn by doing. It is through hands-on active participation and experimentation with a wide variety of materials and equipment that learning takes place.
Social justice is also an integral part of our philosophy. We believe that by modeling developmentally appropriate conflict resolution skills and respecting each child?s individuality, we allow children to learn through experience what it means to be a valued member of the community.
