Diversity
Mission Statement:
The Brimmer and May Diversity Committee is dedicated to fostering an inclusive School community that values and actively promotes an awareness and appreciation of our differences while honoring our common humanity. We are committed to providing leadership, guidance, and ideas to ensure that School policies, programs, and curricula reflect the mission and foster an environment in which all can thrive.
Background and Commitment:
Brimmer and May School has a history of commitment to cultural education and celebration. Since the 1960s alumni of color can attest to the School's inclusive values and sensitivity of the faculty to celebrate the differences within our learning environment. Alumni of color have valued the trip to Africa, the sensitivity of the staff, and the opportunity to share their culture as some of the highlights during their time at the School.
Our Approach
? The School's 2005-2006 Essential Question, ?How does our curriculum represent and affirm Diversity and Multiculturalism at Brimmer and May and educate our students to be responsible citizens in a global society?? is answered with the application of the strategies that faculty and staff apply in their curriculum and approach. Attention to the essential question promotes an inclusive program and community.
? For the 2006-2007 school year, the School added another Essential Question: ?How can our instruction, curriculum, and co-curricular programs prepare and inspire students to think and act as responsible and ethical citizens within our diverse global community?? Faculty and staff will explore the answers to this question in the upcoming year.
? Brimmer and May has a Steering Committee for all diversity efforts.
