A Season of Rituals

Darkest December is upon us, and we are all preparing, in our different ways, to light it up with rituals. Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year's. Parties, tree lightings, and holiday cards. Visits with family. Feasts, gifts, and candles.

So much to look forward to!

And, for most of us, so much to get done in the next few weeks that we're not at all sure where to start.

For new parents, all the rituals of the holiday season can be intimidating. We want our children to experience the magic, but we also want to avoid being completely overwhelmed.

Lucky for us, preschool age children revel in small things and small rituals. We don't have to take part in every holiday tradition to make them happy and impart that sense of seasonal wonder.

And we parents are better at creating rituals than we give ourselves credit for. Just think of all the bedtime traditions you've invented in the past few years!

This month Being Savvy is celebrating the beautiful rituals of the holidays that kids love and learn so much from. We are also celebrating the more commonplace routines that we offer our children all year long to guide them through their explorations of the world. We're hoping to bring a bit of the ease of routine into our rituals, and some of the magic of ritual into everyday routines.
