Another indoor, rainy day activity. Raid your recycling bin for a bunch of plastic bottles. Stand them up on the floor in a group. Then have your players stand a distance away, and take turns rolling a ball towards the 'pins.' You can give each child three tries, and score according to how many bottles they tip over. Tennis balls work well.
Ages : 2-5 year olds
Materials Needed : Empty plastic bottles, tennis (or other) balls
This is a good conversation starter for the dinner table. Pick a feeling and ask, 'What was the most (fun, scary, embarassing, happy, silly, angering) experience this week?' Everyone takes turns telling a true story from the week. Turn it into a friendly competition of feelings and take a family vote to decide the winner in each category.

Toddlers love to 'help' around the house. A great way to teach them to help with chores and enjoy them at the same time is to turn them into a game. Let your child choose a chore to help with (e.g. laundry or unloading the dishwasher). For laundry, ask them to sort the clothes by color, dark colors in one pile, and whites in the other. Then let them throw the clothes into the washer, pour in.. ... Read more >

While walking my 6 year old to school, we play a game we made up called 'Ancient Times.' He'll pick a time in history, for example, The Ice Age. Then we'll describe what we see. He'll pretend to see a woolly mammoth behind a parked car or a glacier behind a tree. It is such a great way to inspire imagination and to learn about history. Of course, the times don't have to be that 'ancient' or.. ... Read more >

Start by singing a favorite song with your child that he or she knows well. Second verse: change the lyrics to include either your child, your pet, or something in the immediate environment. Get your child contributing their own made-up lyrics--it will really get them giggling!

Your child may not yet be able to color and draw pictures, but you can help them create some unique artwork using a stamp pad and their own fingers! Using non-toxic ink pads, press your child's finger into various colors of pads and then press onto paper. Little colored finger prints can be turned into great hearts, flowers, caterpillars, butterflies, eggs, bunnies, baby chicks, pumpkins,.. ... Read more >

Tell the kids to hide in one room of the house. Then take some toy cars, action figures, or other non-breakable toys and objects and hide them in a different room. Once you are done hiding, give each kid a brown paper bag and then have them come into the room and try to find all the hidden objects. A way to make this game fun and educational is to hide things that all fit into a theme (things.. ... Read more >
